My brain is mush. So I have decided to read through the list of 100 Best Novels as judged by the board of Modern Library. In order. Any bets?
This began as a resolution for 2011. Obviously it isn't going to happen in one year. Five seems a bit more realistic, so my goal date for completion is New Year's Eve of 2016. I intend to pace myself by properly resting between these modern miracles of thought and language. A certain amount of sf, medieval murder mysteries, historical biographies, erotica, and non-fiction should do it.
My start has not been auspicious. I've read the first 50 pages of Ulysses three times. While I am no doubt a better person for it, this is not the rate of progress I had hoped for. Hence this blog.
I am hoping that two or three of you decide to check in occasionally. If I am lucky, at least one of you will nag a bit when I my posts come slow and weak. In other words, when I fall behind miserably and then ultimately fail, it will be your collective fault.
What do you get out of reading this? Honestly, not much. I suspect there are many blogs on this topic. Most are doubtless written by lovely individuals who are deeper thinkers, more accomplished grammarians, faster typists, and less prone to cursing than myself. On the other hand, you do know me, so laughing at my idiotic opinions should be that much more satisfying.
Welcome. It should be fun.
